KS3 Art
Course Introduction
The national curriculum for art and design aims to ensure that all pupils:
- Produce creative work, exploring their ideas and recording their experiences
- Become proficient in drawing, painting, sculpture and other art, craft and design techniques
- Evaluate and analyse creative works using the language of art, craft and design
- Know about great artists, craft makers and designers, and understand the historical and cultural development of their art forms
Student Objectives
Pupils should be taught:
- To use a range of techniques to record their observations in sketchbooks, journals and other media as a basis for exploring their ideas.
- To use a range of techniques and media, including painting.
- To increase their proficiency in the handling of different materials.
- To analyse and evaluate their own work, and that of others, in order to strengthen the visual impact or applications of their work.
- About the history of art, craft, design and architecture, including periods, styles and major movements from ancient times up to the present day

Assessment
The students will be leveled at the end of each unit of work. This will be completed in line with the school policy. Feedback and targets will be given to the students verbally and via the written feedback slips which are glued into sketchbooks.
What it leads to in KS4
The Art department offer two courses at KS4:-
GCSE Fine Art
Students are required to work in one or more area(s) of Fine Art, such as those listed below. They may explore overlapping areas and combinations of areas:
- Painting and drawing
- Mixed media, including collage and assemblage
- Installation
- Sculpture
Students will be producing work which shows they can:
- Develop and explore ideas looking at other artists for inspiration.
- Experiment with a range of different media.
- Record observations – using drawing and photography.
- Produce personal responses showing their own ideas.
This is a creative course in which students will have the opportunity to investigate their own themes and interests and self-direct their work under a structured framework.
